How many seats and seat belts are there in the 1998 Toyota Avalon XLS Sedan 4D?
Some websites say 5 seats and others say 6. They say that the middle seat in the front doesnt need a seat belt. Is that true? Why doesnt it need one? Will the police be okay about it if someone sits in the front middle seat without a seatbelt. Help me please! Toyota let you opt for a 3-passenger bench seat in front with a column-mounted shifter or 2 bucket seats with a center counsel-mounted shifter. So does that mean that it is illegal or legal to sit there? Is that a special settting?

- There are 5, and ALL passengers are required to wear one.
- If your car only has 5 seat belts, then thats how many people can sit in the car legally. If you have someone in the front middle without a seat belt, the police can cite you for over capacity of the vehicle
- Some of the cars are equipped with 6 seats and some have 5. Toyota let you opt for a 3-passenger bench seat in front with a column-mounted shifter or 2 bucket seats with a center counsel-mounted shifter. It just depends on what configuration it is set up with. Many other cars are offered that way too, namely Buicks and the discontinued Ford Taurus.
